The CDC network
From 1995 to 2005: creationo of a CDC network
The first Centre de Développement Chorégraphique was created in Toulouse in 1995. Since then this designation has been adopted by organisations which, for some of them, have existed for over 25 years.Today, there are 9 CDC :
- CDC d'Avignon / Les Hivernales
- CDC du Val-de-Marne / Biennale du Val-de-Marne
- CDC de Lille-Roubaix / Danse à Lille
- CDC de Bourgogne / Art Danse Bourgogne
- CDC d'Uzès et du Languedoc-Roussillon / Festival d'Uzès Danse
- CDC de Ouagadougou / Burkina Faso
- CDC d'Artigues-près-Bordeaux / Le Cuvier de Feydeau
- CDC de Grenoble / Le Pacifique
- CDC de Toulouse / Midi-Pyrénées
The CDC have several missions in common :
- Diffuse creators and companies- Create events (festivals and other)
- Shelter young dance companies
- Organise training for amateurs and professionals
- Promote interdisciplinarity
- Enlarge the publics
- Create resource centres for dance.
New places for dance:
The Centres de Développement Chorégraphiques are now engaged in the creation of new spaces for dance: The CDC Danse in Lille has already settled in a gymnasium in Roubaix, the CDC du Val de Marne will take over the brickyard in Vitry, the CDC d’Uzès will open in March 2006, the CDC Toulouse and the CDC Art Danse Bourgogne are planning their development into places which are presently under discussion et finally the CDC Les Hivernales is meant to settle in the Théâtre du Big-Band in Avignon in 2005.These projects of investing new spaces constitute an importante step for the development of choreographic art in France.
Even though each CDC has its own specificity and developps an original project linked to its history and its own local characteristics, they have merged in order to generate new dynamics for dance’s sake: development of apartment housing and policy of coproduction and diffusion of the sheltered compagnies within their network.
For 2007/2008, the chairwoman of the CDC network is Annie Bozzini, Director of the CDC Toulouse/Midi-Pyrénées. Liliane Schauss will succeed her in December 2008.
