The first Centre for the Development of Choreography was set up in Toulouse in 1995. Since then, this title has been adopted by other organizations which, in some cases, have existed for more than 25 years.

The CDC’s share a common mission: • To promote new choreographers and new companies, • To devise specialist forums for dance (festivals and other seasonal events) • To offer premises for young companies to work and practise in, • To continue training activities for amateurs and professionals, • To encourage interdisciplinarity, • To develop audiences, • To create resource centres for the dance. New venues for dance: The
Centres for the Development of Choreography are now working to open new
venues for dance: CDC Danse à Lille is already housed in a gymnasium in
Roubaix, CDC Val-de-Marne is about to move into the Briqueterie at
Vitry, CDC Uzès is opening in March 2006, CDC Toulouse and CDC Art
Danse Bourgogne are planning to develop in new premises that are at
present under negotiation and CDC Les Hivernales is moving into the
Théâtre du Big-Bang in Avignon in 2005.
