“In this anthology play, Raimund Hoghe calls in the ghosts of the Ancients to meet a small troop of young people and thereby he transforms a perilous exercise into a moment of remarkable grace.
While Léo Ferré sings “Avec le temps”, a small man dressed in black: Raimund Hoghe, Pina Bausch’s ex-playwright, calls in the roll. Six boys, six girls, of different nationalities, average age of 22 years, reply. A party of twelve dancers and amateurs who dance the cha-cha-cha, jump into imaginary basket-ball games, compose living scenes on the rhythms and voices of singers from another generation. The soundtrack, from which each element needs to be taken into account (the interpreter, his life and the words of his songs) gives the floor to the beloved departed: Bette Davis, Dean Martin, Jacques Brel. Nevertheless, there is no confrontation between generations, between the young bodies and the voices from another time, as the choreographer acts as a purveyor within a transmission process. And this connection does not happen immediately, it has to be constructed: three hours, this is the time the choreographer and his partners need, because as Raimund Hoghe declares “this is just the time needed to fall in love with each of the twelve interpreters”.”
